National Praise for Anna's Vineyard
One of Port Lincoln's newest but smallest vineyards has been recognised nationally. The 2001 Shiraz produced by Anna's Vineyard was named as one of the top 29 new releases by Winestate Magazine.

It is a remarkable feat considering 700 shiraz varieties from Australia's top vineyards were tasted. The vineyard was the brainchild of Anna Stehr who wanted to do something to rehabilitate and make better use of some vacant land behind the Stehr Group property on Proper Bay Road.

At first fruit trees were planted, then two rows of table grapes and finally the 30 rows of the shiraz vines.

"We're so lucky to have Ralph and Michelle who are so passionate about what they do and what they produce, especially using the organic techniques." Mrs Stehr said.

"It makes the wine special - clean and pure tasting."

Some products used to protect the vines include powdered milk and chamomile tea. Only $135 was spent on fertilizer for the vineyard over the last three years.

The vines have been very productive producing 2.1 tones from only 0.75 of an acre and that is not even with the land being used to full capacity.
